Designer Thread: Elizabeth Keckley

 

Designer Thread is a new series where we showcase a designer and their contribution to fashion. The first episode of this series we are starting with Elizabeth Keckley. She was a seamstress to First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln during the Lincoln presidency. A civil activist founded an organization that provided relief for former slaves. As well as the first African American woman to publish a biography.
